A wonderful example of the creativity involved in hand making snowshoes. For some reason I have found this particular style of snowshoe associated with the maple sap industry. Perhaps their durable design suited the daily abuse inflicted by maple sap farmers. I have also seen old photos of gold rush snowshoes fashioned by trappers and miners doing what they could to work their claim.
